As we know, every year our country will get flooding. But not all people take precautions whenever facing a flood disaster.
December 2014, the year the most impact to all residents who are facing the worst flood in Kuala Krai, Kelantan. Many residents who lost their home and forced to live in temporary housing in the area provided.Therefore, I recommend everyone to take precautions before you get involved with the disaster.
Here, I share the ways to handle if you in this situation:
At home
- Get information about flooding in your place.
- Make sure that the flood warning system and listen to the announcement when delivered via radio, television and the government agencies concerned and the state flood operations room or a nearby area.
- Check the hole like water drain or sewer. Clear any obstructions and make sure it is sealed so that the water does not flood through.
- Provide emergency equipment and adequate food supplies.
- Make sure all your family know how to act during an emergency at home.
If you wish to travel to areas of potential flooding
- For those who have a baby, bring a baby equipment so easily managed when flooding occurs.
- Save phone numbers clinics, hospitals and who to contact in an emergency.
- Chronic patients should carry enough medical supplies in addition to monitoring the treatment table for fear of facing a problem when it is in flood conditions.
- Always get information about rainfall such as access to the website of the Department of Meteorology, Disaster Portal or the Department of Irrigation and Drainage Malaysia.
Flooding
- When you get the first signs of flooding
- Listen through announcements on radio, television or certain parties.
- Move furniture or other equipment to a safe place.
- Keep important documents in a safe place or carry with you in a waterproof container.
- Ready to close the electric switch, the main valve of the water supply and gas.
- Tell your neighbor and ready to move.
Current transfers
- Upon receiving directions, immediately moved to evacuation centers provided.
- Evacuate early before flood increased or during the day because it's easier and safer.
- Follow the specified route, the route may be blocked soon.
In the vehicle
- Do not continue to weather the flood areas, should be turned back to a safe place.

In the House

Outside the house

After the flood

- Provide assistance to your neighbors or people with disabilities (parents, children or the disabled).
- Check your house for signs of cracks or settlement because it may unsafe.
- Do not continue entering a flooded home, beware of the danger of unexpected and hidden.
Upon entering the building
- Wear shoes.
- Check for damage to walls, floors, doors and windows.
- Check for the presence of any poisonous animals or insects that are harmful. Use a stick to remove any obstacles that are scattered on the floor of your home.
- Note the ceiling and plaster walls may be cracked, loose and fall.
- Check for hazards
- Check the gas pipes may rupture or leak.
- Check the electrical wires submerged in water.
- Check electrical equipment submerged.
- Check the ingredients are flammable which may flow in during floods (kerosene, petrol, diesel, etc.).
- Waste materials are submerged food affected by flooding include canned food.
- Check for damage to the septic tank to avoid biological hazards.
- Report any damage to public facilities to the authorities.
