"Use By" VS "Best Before" Dates

Definition of Terms (Date Markings on Food Packs)

Assalammualaikum. Hye everyone.
This morning, I want to share about Definition of Terms (Date Markings on Food Packs). This is because many people thought that everything the same purpose and use.

Before we buy any food packaging we must look first expiry dates, especially such as bread, milk and so on. But nobody actually noticed some writing 'best before' and write ' use by '?

Exactly what difference this both? There is a difference or is the same?

Apparently there is a difference on both.

Use by date is about safety

'Use by' also relates to food safety the most important date to remember! These foods are to be removed on that date because it was dangerous to eat. While 'use before' related to product safety. Foods can be eaten (and most can be frozen) up until the use by date, but not after. You will see use by dates on food that goes off quickly, such as meat products or ready-prepared salads. For the use by to be a valid guide, you must carefully follow storage instructions.

Best before date is about quality

'Best before' often associated with food quality and not safety. The food will be safe to eat after this date but may not be at its best. It is about flavour and texture might not be as good. The best before dates appear on a wide range of frozen, dried, tinned and other foods. The best before date will only be accurate if the food is stored according to the instructions on the label. That why is canned food, frozen food and chocolate using the 'best before' and not 'use by'. So this means it is safe to eat after the date indicated. If you look good as long as there was no strange smell and kind to all. However, if we smell another, or may have other good taste do not use it?

NOTES :

Best before Date: This is the date the manufacturer deems the product reaches peak freshness. The date does not indicate spoilage, nor does it necessarily tells you that the food is no longer safe for consumption.
Use-by Date: Refers to the final day that the product will be at its optimum freshness, flavor, and texture.
Expiry Date: It is added to a food package to tell consumers the last day a product is safe to consume. You should never consume food after the expiry date.

Sell By: This is specifically added for sellers of the products. Most sell-by dates are found on perishables like meat, seafood and milk. The date is a guide for stores to know how long they can display a particular product. After this date, they MUST not sell it.
